Peoplefit Corner - Morton's Neuroma

What is Morton's Neuroma?
A neuroma is a noncancerous (benign) growth of nerve tissue that can develop in various parts of your body. Morton's neuroma occurs in a nerve in your foot, often between your third and fourth toes. The condition isn't a true tumor, but instead involves a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading to your toes. Morton's neuroma causes a sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot or toes.

What Causes Morton's Neuroma?
Morton's neuroma, also called plantar neuroma or intermetatarsal neuroma, occur in response to irritation, injury or pressure — such as from wearing tightfitting shoes.

How to Treat Morton's Neuroma Treatment depends on the severity of your symptoms. Initially, your doctor will likely recommend conservative approaches, such as resting your foot, changing to better-fitting shoes and taking over-the-counter medications to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

If your pain is severe or persistent, or conservative approaches aren't working, you may need corticosteroid injections or surgery.
